Poetry Corner: Not there Yet

Not There Yet

I thought with time it’d get better-
I’d get better.

But time
has passed…

I don’t want to forget you.
I just want to get to a place,
Have a day
Where I don’t feel as if my heart
is being wrenched from my chest.
Like this gaping hole in me that you’ve left
is no longer a chasm
that threatens to swallow me
and bury me in darkness.
Where my breath doesn’t catch in my throat
And the tears don’t come unannounced
And I don’t feel

And empty

Without the piece of me
that died with you.

Time is passing.

And I am still…
